Provisional RGD Speed Networking Event - Nov. 10

An event for Provisional RGD members to practise networking among peers just in time for DesignThinkers.
This is an opportunity for new and young professionals to put their networking skills to the test in a speed-networking format. Provisional RGD members in the city and from out of town will be able to meet other members and find people to meet up with and talk to throughout the conference. Make lasting ties and meet new people in the industry during this exciting new event brought to you by the Provisional RGD Committee.
To kick off the evening, Ilise Benun will provide a brief presentation on the keys to successful networking. Ilise is an author, consultant, national speaker and co-founder of Marketing Mentor. Her books include The Designer’s Guide to Marketing and Pricing (HOW Design Books, Spring 2008), Stop Pushing Me Around: A Workplace Guide for the Timid, Shy and Less Assertive (Career Press 2006), The Art of Self Promotion (2007), Self-Promotion Online and Designing Web Sites:// for Every Audience (HOW Design Books). She also co-authored Public Relations for Dummies, 2nd Edition (Wiley, 2006) with Eric Yaverbaum and Bob Bly.
Food will also be provided. Drinks will be charged per person.

Best known for co-founding New York Magazine and the enduring I ♥ NY campaign, the full breadth of Glaser's remarkable artistic output is revealed in this documentary portrait, MILTON GLASER: TO INFORM AND DELIGHT. From newspapers and magazine designs, to interior spaces, logos, and brand identities, to his celebrated prints, drawings, posters and paintings, the documentary offers audiences a much richer appreciation for one of the great modern renaissance men.

Gourmet Typography - Nov. 13

Take control of your type instead of letting it control you! RGD Ontario presents this master class, geared towards design professionals and type enthusiasts of all skill levels. This session focuses on learning and applying the typographic skills and aesthetics rarely taught in schools, or fully understood by professionals. Learn how to “see” like you've never seen before.
Ilene Strizver, founder of The Type Studio, is a typographic consultant, designer, writer and educator specializing in all aspects of visual communication from the aesthetic to the technical. Ilene formerly was the Director of Typeface Development for International Typeface Corporation (ITC) where she developed more than 300 notable text and display typefaces. Her book, Type Rules! The designer’s guide to professional typography, has received numerous accolades from the type and design community. Her clients include Agfa Monotype, Linotype, Adobe, Haband, Nassau Guardian, Johnson & Johnson and bethere.com.
